Smiley sticker for car

This car sticker is a cute smiley. So who can say no to this little guy. And if you put it on your car, it will make people smile. And that in this same way this auto sticker does. And the car sticker with the smiley face is not a bumper sticker, because it is the original Car Finger Wiper Sticker. And those are attached to the windshield wiper, which is what makes them so special, because they move as soon as you engage the windshield wiper. While this car decal smiley goes on the rear windshield. And there it is attached in a way that it waves back and forth as soon as you press the button. And this might at first make more sense with the other car finger stickers, which were invented first. But we like this addition to the car finger sticker family. And actually this little emoji sticker is well fit for hopping around. So why not buy it for your vehicle and with this buy the option, to give a smile to other participants of the traffic, as they stick on the road behind you. With this funny sticker, you feel like a king of the road. And if you are not convinced yet: stick around, as maybe the other designs are something for your car. Because there is not only this emoticon sticker, as some other nice shapes are available, which speak as much as the smiley. And those other types of car stickers can be found in the menu. And there is another special thing to be mentioned about this smiley sticker, which is, that this form is not adhesive. Actually it works with a counterpart, which is attached to your car, which makes it, that you can interchange the stickers. So if you want another sticker for the moment, then you can just put it on, as long as you are using the original car finger stickers. Which make it, that having multiple versions is not a problem. Enjoy the fun.

Smiley sticker history

You won’t believe it, but the history of the smiley seems to date back 3700 years.

Hittite Pot with smiley.

If you click the link, you will find an image of a smiley on a Hittite pot. And this pot was found in the country where the Hittite kingdom had been, in Karkamış, Turkey. While you could discuss if the person painting the pot was trying to create a smiling face, the association created with this image is so strong, that we have to assume, that the painter and his friends recognized it as a face. Which then gives us good reason to actually speak of it as a smiley symbol. So how did this sticker came into modern times, was it copied from the pot. No, it was not, because the kitchenware was found after the smiley was already widely used nowadays in culture. So how did the symbol make its way into popular culture?

In 1635 a Slovak notary called Jan Ladislaides drew a smiling face commenting the financial records of his town. This is the earliest known document to contain a smiling face as a mean of expressing happiness from an otherwise written text. And his smiley was already golden.

in 1741 the Abbot of the Cistercian cloister Žďár nad Sázavou Bernard Hennet used a drawing of a face together with his signature.

Much later 5.28 1896 a Russian newspaper called Ekaterinburgskaya Nedelya printed emotions signs using punctuation marks. Which might well be the all first use of printed emoticons.

Four year later in 1900, the writer and poet Johannes V. Jensen experimented with language. And therefore he used happy and sad faces in his letters.

1953 an advertising for the musical Lily then used the smiley in its form that we use today. While it was not yellow but white, it is used as a symbol of laughing, and it is accompanied by a crying smiley depicting crying. So it is not only a completely modern smiley, but it also serves the purpose of an emoticon.

Then in 1962 a New York based radio station called WMCA AM launched a marketing campaign. While this radio station called its DJ’s “The Good Guys”. And in order to market their station they produced sweatshirts with a smiley on them. Which you can see behind this link. And this seems to be the first use of the smiley design with the color combination yellow and black.

From there on a lot of designers started creating such smiling faces. And one of them was designer Harvey Ross Ball in Worcester, Massachusetts, who re-created the yellow smiling face for a campaign of the State Mutual Life Assurance. Because they had asked him to create an uplifting design to raise the moral of the company workers.

And with this development the more than 3700 year old depiction became a commonplace human symbol for depicting happiness. And also it became used as a symbol which could be used in texts, which is the use of an emoticon already 1635. And also it shows a use of emoticons made up of punctuation marks as early as 1896. So it is no wonder that on 19 September 1982 Scott Fahlman suggested using “:-)” in online texts to mark jokes or to use “:-(” for saying that it is no joke.

And this renders the development of the smiley from ancient times to today, where we all use them in our messages. And also it shows up the history from the antique use to the use as a nice smiley car sticker today.
